"To renovate rather than tear down was the greener choice — and the more soulful one."
The Story

Not a renovation.
A reimagination.

330 Windsor Road began as a 1953 ranch on a private half-acre in North Asheville's coveted Lakeview Park neighborhood. What it became is something else entirely — a GreenBuilt design-build project conceived and executed by Gavin McKenzie of Second Mountain, who brought 20 years of luxury residential and hospitality-grade design experience from Miami and South Florida's most celebrated projects to the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Every surface, system, and finish is entirely new. The original structure and framing were preserved intentionally — to honor the home's roots, to keep the character of a house that had stood for 70 years, and because renovating rather than demolishing was the more sustainable choice. Everything else was rebuilt from the inside out with the precision and material sensibility of a boutique hotel.

The result is a home that belongs completely to the Blue Ridge — solid white oak underfoot, vaulted western red cedar overhead, charred Japanese cypress in the office, mountain views at 2,000 feet — expressed through a design language formed in South Florida's finest residences and hospitality spaces.

The Home
Nine defining details
01
Solid White Oak
Custom-milled · Main level throughout
Custom-milled solid white oak flooring throughout the main level, paired with bespoke white oak cabinetry in the kitchen and primary suite. The grain runs through every room, connecting the spaces in a single continuous material story.
02
Vaulted Cedar Ceilings
Western Red Cedar · Hand-selected
Hand-selected western red cedar, vaulted overhead — warm, aromatic, dimensional. The kind of material decision that changes how a room feels before you understand why. Nothing in a catalog looks like this.
03
The Sugi Ban Office
Charred Japanese Cypress · Preserved Limestone
Walls and ceiling clad in Sugi Ban — the ancient Japanese technique of charring cypress to create a surface that is simultaneously raw and refined. Paired with preserved limestone floors. A room that feels like nowhere else in residential real estate.
04
Primary Suite
Main Level · Steam Shower · Soaking Tub
A main-level primary sanctuary: steam shower, soaking tub, custom cabinetry finishes. The finish level of a boutique hotel suite — experienced every morning, owned permanently.
05
Absolute Black Kitchen
Bedrosians Penny Tile · Custom Cabinetry · High-End Appliances
Absolute Black granite counters meet Bedrosians penny tile backsplash in a kitchen where every detail was considered. Custom white oak cabinetry, high-end appliances, open floorplan, natural light. Function and beauty in equal measure.
06
Sunken Cedar Hot Tub
New Cedar Deck · Edible Garden Beds · Outdoor Shower
A new cedar deck overlooks the private backyard. Sunken cedar hot tub. Raised edible garden beds. Outdoor shower. A landscape designed by Bethany Gracia — Japanese maples, magnolia, sourwood — that feels grown, not installed.
07
Zero-VOC Throughout
GreenBuilt Certified · Healthy Air Quality Standard
Zero-VOC finishes on every surface. GreenBuilt certified from the ground up. A standard most luxury homes never meet — and the kind of commitment that makes the air inside feel as good as the air at 2,000 feet outside.
08
Built for Resilience
Generator Hookup · EV Charger · Tankless Water Heater
Generator hookup, waterproofed lower-level EV charger, improved drainage, heat pump with ductless systems, tankless water heater. Long-term performance and peace of mind are designed in — not bolted on.
09
Mountain Views
2,000 Ft Elevation · Lakeview Park Community
Mountain and winter views at 2,000 feet. The Lakeview Park community offers pool, golf, putting green, tennis, fitness center, and walking trails. Five minutes from the heart of downtown Asheville.

Design Identity

Rustic Modernism.
Biophilic at its core.

The design language was conceived by Gavin McKenzie of Second Mountain — a designer and builder whose two decades of work spans luxury custom residences and celebrated hospitality projects throughout Miami and South Florida. He brought that eye to the Blue Ridge and let the mountain speak back.

The vocabulary is Appalachian: white oak, western red cedar, charred cypress, preserved limestone. The grammar is hospitality: spatial flow, finish level, the obsessive attention to how each material meets the next. The result belongs completely to North Carolina — and carries the DNA of the world's finest boutique hotels in every surface.
